Canadian Porn Star Charged in Bizarre Dismemberment Case

Montreal police confirmed that a human head that was found in a park in Montreal on Sunday is that of Jun Lin, a man that has been identified as the lover and victim of Canadian porn star Luka Magnotta.  Magnotta killed and dismembered Lin’s body in videos posted online between late May and early June.  According to neighbors, Magnotta was seen carrying a package to a post office on May 25th.  After dismembering the body, Magnotta sent various body parts, a foot and a hand, to members of the liberal and conservative parties in the Canadian Parliament.  Magnotta also sent a hand and foot belonging to Mr. Lin to two schools in Vancouver.  Lin’s torso was found in a suitcase outside Magnotta’s Montreal apartment.

Just days after the brutal murder of Jun Lin, Magnotta flew to Paris on May 26th where he actively followed the headlines surrounding the case.  On May 29th a local janitor discovered the suitcase containing Lin’s torso outside a Montreal apartment building.  A nation-wide manhunt was launched the next day for Luke Magnotta and Interpol added him to their most-wanted list notifying authorities in nearly 200 countries.  In Paris, Magnotta was spotted on May 30th leaving a bar with a man.  French police began investigating two claims by people who said they saw Magnotta in Northwest Paris on June 3rd and located some of his personal belongings in a Paris hotel room.  The next day, June 4th, police arrested Magnotta at a cybercafe in Berlin where he was viewing internet sites searching for information on himself.  Magnotta waved his extradition hearing in Berlin and was flown back to Canada on a military airplane.

The video of Magnotta killing and dismembering Lin was posted on the website Best Gore under the title: “1 Lunatic 1 Ice Pick” where it received more than 300,000 views in just four hours.  The ten minute video shows Magnetta stabbing a naked and bound Lin with an icepick and subsequently dismembering the body.  Perhaps just as disconcerting as the crime itself were the comments made by visitors of the site who were “disappointed” because the video did not show the actual death of Lin just “stabbing and dismembering the body” as one user put it.  What makes this case unique in the world of snuff film killings is the fact that the video was submitted to the public and that music was added to the video, including music from the American Psycho soundtrack.  Police believe Magnotta posted the video while on the run in Paris on May 31st.

Meanwhile, in the Quebec town of Gastineau, police are actively pursuing Magnotta as a possible suspect in the 2011 killing and subsequent burning of Valerie Leblanc.  Police say that Leblanc sustained severe head trauma and was also burned at some point as well.  Luke Magnotta born Eric Clinton Newman in Scarborough, Canada is facing first-degree murder charges in Montreal and will have a preliminary hearing in March 2013.  Magnotta had numerous surgeries performed, allegedly to make himself look more like James Dean.  Magnotta also maintained at least 70 Facebook profiles and 20 different websites.

Police in California are also investigating whether Magnotta killed a 66 year old California man while living in Los Angeles in 2011.  Hervey Medellin’s dismembered remains were found in a Hollywood park, his head found in a plastic bag and his hands and feet found separately.

On June 13, a Montreal teacher was suspended for showing the Magnotta snuff film to his high school class.  The teacher apparently conducted a vote among his class, which wound up being 22 for and 3 against viewing the film, the teacher has been suspended without pay while police investigate the situation.
